Ethos

Whatever the scale or budget, RK/a strives to deliver elegant and rational architecture that is sensitive to its context. The practice has a strong understanding of costs and recognises the importance of a clear and efficient constructional logic in order to achieve the best value from a client’s budget.

Methodology

Very often, the key to successful architecture is the quality of the underlying idea.  Identifying the most important element of a client’s brief and then interpreting how to respond with the most appropriate design solution is essential for unlocking the full potential of a site or building.

RK/a listens carefully to its client’s requirements and works hard from the very outset of a project to deliver well-considered, generous, joyful and practical spaces, designed from the inside out, focused on inhabitation and dwelling - whilst simultaneously creating buildings that are refined, elegant and well-proportioned externally.

The practice favours using materials that are robust and low-maintenance and which will age gracefully.  It designs energy-efficient buildings that have high levels of natural daylight and ventilation, maximising opportunities for views wherever possible.

This rigorous, pragmatic, sensitive and contextual approach to design, coupled with a strong understanding of national and local planning policies and Building Regulations means the practice has an impeccable track record for obtaining planning consent for its clients at the first attempt – including Listed Buildings applications, within National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Conservation Areas, and adjacent to SSSIs.
